LIPS 2024 Travel

 Transportation

The closest major airport to NKU is the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport (airport code CVG). This airport is about 15 miles from NKU.

The Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky (TANK) operates bus service between the airport and the NKU campus. The trip takes about 90 minutes total.

Parking

Northern Kentucky University’s website has detailed information about visitor parking.

 The basics:

  • Parking is a maximum of $9.25 per day. This is not included in your LIPS registration fee.
  • Parking can be purchased on site by the day, or you can buy a printable permit in advance that you can display on your dashboard. You will first need to create a guest account in the NKU Parking Portal. Note: For people renting cars, you will need the license plate number and state in order to purchase an advance permit.
  • Advance purchases of parking permits allow you to park in Student Parking or or Permit Parking lots. If you purchase parking on site, you are limited to the Welcome Center, University, and Kenton Garages.
  • The Kenton Garage is the closest to the planetarium. The planetarium is in Dorothy Westermann Herrmann Science Center. NKU has an interactive campus map.

Lodging

There are three hotels at similar distances from Haile Digital Planetarium (4.5 to 5 miles each way) These are the closest to campus and are located in the town of Wilder, Kentucky:

Holiday Inn Express & Suites Cincinnati South – Wilder

Comfort Inn and Suites Northern Kentucky

There are some AirBnB options in the Highland Heights area as well.

During a LIPS 2022 session in the planetarium dome, a woman stands on a theater seat. She is either catching or throwing a basketball-sized ball.
